A lovely, optimistic main character, and a lovely town with a fairy tale motif. I enjoyed Ozmafia very much.
Every route had a different feeling: some of them felt light and cute, others were funny and maybe a even little twisted, and at least one of had a much darker story I was surprised since most of the good otome games are very tame. Very well written and well translated.
I whole-heartedly recommend it to anyone that loves visual novels. First I want to thank MangaGamer for translating the game and giving us a chance to play it in English! I had so much fun reading Ozmafia and I still feel very emotional about it even though I finished it a some days ago.
The characters are all very charming and the heroine Fuka has a surprising amount of personality herself unlike most otome game heroines. If there is a misunderstanding or a fight she won't sit around moping and feel sorry for herself like they usual do, instead she says "I need to go talk to them and sort this out! She speaks her mind and is a very honest which I liked a lot. Unlike most visual novel games Ozmafia is split up into smaller scenes. Often you will be reading a scenario only to have it suddenly stop and change scene to the next day without any conclusion.
This is because Ozmafia is set up to be re-played from the start every time you're going for a different ending. When you play a route a second time you will unlock a ton and I really mean a ton of new scenes that explains what happened while also giving you an insight to what the others characters were thinking and feeling at the time. It might sound tedious but it really adds to the replayability instead of just agonizing skipping to the choices.
I also wanted to adress one thing as this game for some reason has gained reputation of having a lot of NTR. While there is a switch route mechanic between the three main guys but it never ends with any bad feelings between them. The four of them stays friends no matter what happens and in most cases the person you were switching from even encourages you to do it! In the same way that you wouldn't stay in a unhappy relationship in real life the game offers you the choice to either keep trying to patch things up or end it.
Don't listen to people comparing it to Diablolik Lovers etc - its not even close to being that bad. Most of the game involves reading each page and then making choices based on the story you read. There are CG elements in the game, the music is pleasant, and many of the stories are very original. The artwork has a Japanese manga style, it is almost all hand drawn, and they have clearly spent weeks and weeks getting the colours and details correct.
